I am convinced that there is no alternative to the carbon-free path of development. Europe declared that it will become a climate neutral continent by 2050. For this purpose, it is planned to spend at least 1 trillion euros.
Our country has also made an ambitious commitment to become carbon neutral state. Even before the full-scale invasion of Russia, the need for decarbonization of Ukraine was estimated at more than 100 billion euros.
Revival of Ukraine based on the principles of green economy is my life’s mission, which I strive to implement through the Decarbonization and Recovery Foundation. My experience of involvement in the fight against climate change is different: from emissions of greenhouse gases by industries that I have created yet in the early nineties, before the appearance of the Decarbonization Center at UKRAINIAN LEAGUE OF INDUSTRIALISTS AND ENTREPRENEURS (ULIE). Meanwhile, there was expertise in the creation and support of joint Kyoto implementation projects protocol, which allowed many enterprises to sell their own emission reduction units on the European market. The decarbonization center at ULIE provides an opportunity popularize the idea of reducing emissions, promote low-carbon technologies and principles of green economy. And also be involved in the formation of the rules of the carbon market internal game.
The Foundation Decarbonization and Recovery of Ukraine is a fundraising platform, focused mainly on foreign donors. Decarbonization is not only a way of investments, but also the way of grants. Its philosophy is simple: to attract financial resources of donors for grant non-refundable financial assistance to Ukrainian businesses, territorial communities, regions in the restoration of production, infrastructure facilities and social sphere on the principles of decarbonization.
As an investor and investment consultant, I understand that this idea does not fit into the forms and methods of attracting financial resources existing on the capital market. However, I believe in success of the project and its full compliance with the conditions in which my country found itself. Falling GDP, the collapse of the economy, the destruction of infrastructure and business does not contribute to the allocation of funds for decarbonization. But this does not mean that it should not be conducted. We need a synergy of Ukrainians with the world in the restoration of Ukraine, the planet as a whole.
